Description

ATUM is seeking a skilled and innovative molecular biologist / microbiologist for a lab-focused product and process development role. This scientist will have a leadership/mentoring position in a collaborative team, with primary responsibility to expand and deepen ATUM’s capabilities supporting our molecular biology product lines. The successful candidate will rapidly gain an understanding of each aspect of our manufacturing process and leverage our capabilities to develop process improvements and new commercial offerings. We are looking for a fundamentally curious wet-lab scientist who wants the opportunity to catalyze innovation in the field of biotechnology and bio-manufacturing. This position will work closely with the Production Manager.

Requirements

Education

B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related field with 5+ yrs of experience in an R&D capacity, or Ph.D. in a related field.

Skills & Techniques

Molecular Biology

  • PCR and nonstandard PCR methods
  • Methods for DNA design, assembly, and cloning.
  • DNA sequencing methods (Sanger and NGS platforms) and data processing

Microbiology and strain engineering

  • Knock-in and knock-out strain engineering methods for Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae
  • Experience with gene expression systems in a variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts, e.g., Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pichia pastoris, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae is an advantage.

DNA Twopointo, Inc., d/b/a ATUM, seeks Cell Line Development Production Lab Lead for our Newark, CA office. To be considered for this role the candidate must fulfill all of the requirements outlined below:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biotech., Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry + 1 y. exp. as Biotechnologist working w/ aseptic cell culture techniques; applying lab data standards; performing statistical analysis; using cell age and growth lab testing and assay methods; and using Nova instrument & software, VI-Cell instruments & software, and Beckman aseptic liquid handling instrument and software, as well as advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work on stable pool and monoclonal cell line ranking, which entails performing aseptic cultures of established stable pools and clones, performing a two-week feeding strategy, monitoring growth, monitoring protein yield, and scaling up the top monoclonal isolates.
  • Sample stable pool and clones throughout the two-week feeding process for analytical assay work. This entails managing communication between multiple teams to perform assay work as directed as well as ensuring that the schedule for submitting samples is followed to provide data to our clients.
  • Manage the day-to-day processes within the ranking process for cell line development. Ensures that the staff are following the proper initiation, feed, sampling, and purification schedules for each project.
  • Work on analyzing, organizing, and presenting the data on cell development lines generated. This entails collecting and recording data from lab activities organizing the data into useful sets and utilizing statistical approaches to analyze the data and creating reports that share useful insights drawn from the data that can be used in various client applications.
  • Create lab records, data records, and complete compliance documents following ATUM’s documentation SOPs, relevant industry documentation practices, and regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to frequently and repetitively move and/or pour a minimum of 5lbs (up to 25lbs may occasionally be required) as well as other physical activities, including:

  • Constantly opening and closing lab receptacles, including removing and adhering plate seals, twisting caps, lifting lids.
  • Occasionally ascending/descending a ladder to retrieve lab supplies.
  • Constantly positioning self to pour or pipette reagents used for the lab process, including large and small volumes.
